Tonight – Gage Quinney of Las Vegas and AHL Chicago Wolves in Thanksgiving Eve Action at All-State Arena

Wednesday – Thanksgiving Eve – 2019

Chicago – Gage Quinney of Las Vegas and the AHL Chicago Wolves are taking on the Grand Rapids Griffins here tonight – Thanksgiving Eve – on home ice at the All State Arena. Grand Rapids has a 9-9-1 record, the Wolves – an affiliate of the NHL Vegas Golden Knights are 8-12-1. Gage has 6 goals, 10 assists for 16 points. He is +2 on the ice this season. There is a full slate of AHL games Wednesday night. Game time is 7 pm central. Outside the arena tonight there is a high wind warning with gusts at 50 mph, maybe more.

It’s Thanksgiving Eve – all the best to all Las Vegas players who are out of town and in action during this great holiday weekend. For all those at home, enjoy this very special time of the year with your hockey families.

WSHL Steamboat Springs Wranglers in Colorado Shut Down Operations

Steamboat Springs, Colorado – After the WSHL Steamboat Springs Wranglers hockey team played at home on Sunday the players were told that would be the final game for the team. The expense of putting together a franchise and keep it operating was simply too much.

One of the operating members of the team told the hometown paper the Wranglers last season played in the Rocky Mountain League. When that league went down, the Wranglers joined the Western State Hockey League.

So instead of playing games locally the Steamboat team was all over the country like playing in Dallas and El Paso, things like that. There is also a record number of junior teams playing which made it more difficult to recruit top players.

The toughest part about all of this was telling the Steamboat players after they played so well against the WSHL Wichita Jr Thunder on Sunday. The Steamboat team drew about 200 to 400 fans per home game. The Wranglers went down with a record of 0-19-0.

Cortland, N.Y. – Michael Yochum, a big Las Vegas goal scorer on every level he played, scored twice today for the ACHA D1 Canisius Golden Griffins in a 7-4 win over the hometown SUNY Cortland. Michael, a freshman, has seven goals in his debut season for Canisius.

Great Falls, Montana – It was a massively great weekend for Las Vegas goalie Luke Fundator and the NA3HL Sheridan Hawks of Wyoming. For the second straight night Luke was the winning goalie for the Hawks, this one 5-4 in OT over the Great Falls Americans. These are two top NA3HL teams – Great Falls is 16-2-3, the Sheridan Hawks are 17-4-1. This season Luke has a 4-0-0 goalie record with a 2.96 gaa and a 91.5% save percentage.
